A Brief History of the End of the War (Installation views at the XXX Sao Paulo Biennale)
Newspaper facsimiles, wood spiral
17 x 15 x 10 ft.
2009
In the installation “A brief history of the end of the war’, the viewer enters a 20-meter long spiraling structure made of wood. Inside the spiral, a collection of newspaper front pages are placed side by side in chronological order, beginning with the oldest published to the most recent at the end of the spiral. Each newspaper prominently features a headline about the end of a war the U.S. has fought starting with the Declaration of Independence in 1782 to the end of the Iraq War.
The spiral and repeating nature of the piece emphasize how the “end of the war” never ends.
